What TR saw – and the pussyfooting mollycoddles missed

On April 3rd, 1917 Colonel Theodore Roosevelt rode up to the White House – uninvited and unannounced.

The House had been his for more than seven years between 1901 and 1909. But he’d only visited a couple of times since.

He was returning by train from a fishing trip down in Florida. It had been a good one. The second largest devilfish ever measured fell to his harpoon.

Now he had a few hours to stop off in Washington DC before catching his train back to New York.

The day before had been momentous.

President Woodrow Wilson had finally asked Congress to declare war on Germany.

For two and a half years, Theodore Roosevelt (TR) had been exhorting Wilson and anyone who would listen that the United States had to enter the War.

He had been preaching preparedness. Action. Standing up for what was right. And how failure to do so would ensure things got worse.

In his frustration and disdain for Wilson’s policy of “waging peace” TR had called the president all sorts of colorful names. A great animosity stood like a stone wall between the two.

But today he wanted to congratulate President Wilson in person.

No gloating. Just sincere tribute.

Alas, the president was in a cabinet meeting and couldn’t see him. And Roosevelt had a train to catch.

On his way out he asked that Wilson be informed that he had come to congratulate him “on that remarkable state paper.” (Read “Colonel Roosevelt” by Edmond Morris for the full story.)

During the first years of the War, Roosevelt often felt like a crazy man yelling into the wind.

He could see things others couldn’t see. Or didn’t want to see.

And as long as they could ignore him, most did.

But events at last proved him right.

Once again, TR was regarded as someone with remarkable insight and wisdom.

It’s a mixed blessing to be able to see things most completely miss.

On the one hand, you see opportunities and possibilities others walk right past. It creates a fire in your belly. You want more because you can see more. You want higher standards because you can see them and their benefits – to you and to others who can’t yet see what you see.

On the other hand, you often need their cooperation. And to get it, you’ve got to open their eyes. You’ve got to help them see what you see.

If you’ve got valuable skills, you know what I mean. You struggle with this mixed blessing every day.

You can see things your ideal clients can’t see. You can help them accomplish what they want most…

But you might as well be a mad man howling into the wind.

How do you help them see what you see, so they want to work with you?

Think about it this way:

You’ve mastered your craft. That’s why you can see things your ideal clients can’t in your area of expertise.

Now, to build your own steady, consistent, predictable flow of ideal clients you need to master that craft as well.

When you do, you’ll be seeing things that are invisible to you today.

And teaching you to see these thingsand to immediately apply them to your marketing – is what we do in the “Your Marketing Helium” live web-workshop.

The next one will be March 31st, just two days before the anniversary of Wilson committing the United States to the Great War.

I guarantee that you’ll see your marketing completely differently.

And when you do, you’ll change what you do and instantly be getting better results.

Or your money back.
