The day a simple misunderstanding turned the heavens upside down. (Financial planning for entrepreneurs.)

Walk into the main hall of Grand Central Station, 42nd street in New York City. Crane your neck and look up.

You find yourself admiring one of the most famous painted ceilings in the world.

It’s an incredible room, with a breathtaking ceiling. I was there myself last year. Tom Zeeb and I met for breakfast nearby. Had cigars at Barclay-Rex on 42nd street, then walked across the street to Grand Central where we recorded a short video for Tom’s private clients.

But here’s a bit of trivia I didn’t know at the time: The constellations painted on the ceiling are backwards. They’re painted the way you’d see the stars if you were on the other end of the universe, not if you’re looking up from Earth. “God’s view,” the Vanderbilts claimed.

How did that happen? Well, like most screw-ups in this world, it was due to a simple misunderstanding.

An astronomer drew a diagram and gave it to the painters who were to paint the ceiling.

The astronomer assumed the painters would hold his drawing up to the ceiling and paint what they saw.

But the painters kept the drawing flat on a table, assuming that’s how the astronomer meant them to read it.

And the rest is history.

This is just like many entrepreneurs when it comes to their long term financial planning. Most of us are not very good at it, so we’re susceptible to big mistakes from a simple misunderstanding.

As my business began to grow, I began to take a greater interest in taxes, savings and long term financial planning.

As an entrepreneur, there are things you need to consider that ‘normal’ people don’t have to think about. For example, when should you invest money back into your business – and when should you invest it elsewhere?

My friend Justin Krane will be teaching us that and a lot more in a new webinar called “Investment Strategies for Entrepreneurs.”

This will be an education-only webinar with nothing for sale.

If your business has been growing, or you just know you should be paying more attention to your long term financial planning, join me and Justin on this webinar.

PS – You may already know this: Research showed that monkeys throwing darts at random stocks do better than most portfolio managers. How should you invest in a world like that?! Justin will tell us on this webinar. Go register here.
