Those ups, downs and unknowns.

When things are going well, you’re tempted to think that you’re awesome. You’re ‘It.’ There’s something special about you and you’re smarter and better than many of those poor folks around you.

You tend to think things will continue to go well.

If you’re ‘it’ then good times will roll on, right?  The constant is you. The cause is you. So the results will only get better.

When the tide turns (and it always does) you’re tempted to think that there’s something wrong with you. That you are in some way inferior. That you are not as good as all those beautiful people around you whose lives are in perfect order.

You tend to think that your current difficulties will continue.

If you’re the cause and the constant is you, then the frustrations and disappointments will continue.

But after you’ve been through a few of these cycles, and you have the benefit of looking back, you see a very, very different picture.

You can finally see Reality.

The Reality is that you are not “It.”

Nor do you have a ‘failure’ gene that will ensure continued frustration.

(You already knew that, but a reminder is sometimes helpful, right?)

The Reality is simple: You handled yesterday’s challenge well.

And you grew from it.

So life has now sent you a new challenge. You’ve earned the right to grow and contribute further.

And the only way you can grow further is when you’re given the opportunity to tackle something scary.

It’s only scary, because the path through it isn’t clear.

But you can eliminate the scare.
