Waiting for a ‘break’ you miss your opportunity.

Your big opportunity today isn’t going to look very exciting.

Some dreamers wait around for THE call: “Hey, I’m calling from Oprah’s office and we’d like you to be on the show.”

But that’s a *break.*  It takes no special intelligence, tenacity or drive to recognize it and jump on it.

A ‘break’ is when someone else does it for you.  The average person is looking for a ‘break.’

So they miss their opportunities.

An opportunity is when you make it happen.  When you seize something rough and you do the work to polish it.

Opportunities are easy to miss because, as Edison pointed out, they show up “dressed in overalls and look like work.”

When you get a lucky break, it’s normal to feel ecstatic.  Serious excitement.

But when facing an opportunity, it’s normal to feel fear.  Resistance.  Self-doubt.  Worry.

Real opportunities have a price attached to them.

It’s going to cost you money that you had allocated for something else.

Or it’s going to cost you time you thought you’d take to relax.

Your best opportunities come with no guarantee of success.

With no one to clean up the mess if it fails.  No one, but you.

But these are the real opportunities in life.

Think of the people you look up to and respect.  The ones you want to be like.

They’re not the ones who had a lucky break.  They’re the ones who saw an opportunity and despite the cost, the time and the fear, they made it work.

What’s your opportunity today?

It’s to make that phone call you’ve been putting off.

To write that email.

To invest in that training or coaching you know you should do – but which scares you.

Few people know how to see a real opportunity.

But every time you and I see and pounce on an opportunity, we make ourselves and our world that much better.
